معرفی
Gitalee Sarker is a Novo Nordisk Research Fellow and Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the University of Oxford's Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, working within the Medical Sciences Division. She holds academic appointments as Fulford Junior Research Fellow in Medicine at Somerville College and Tutor in Medicine at Lady Margaret Hall.
Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from ETH Zurich (2018), an MSc in Neuroscience from the University of Bonn, and an MBBS from Dhaka Medical College, Bangladesh.
Sarker's research focuses on neuroimmunometabolic interactions, particularly the role of immune cells at neuro-adipose junctions in obesity and cardiac function. Her work combines single-cell RNA sequencing with physiological approaches to identify novel therapeutic targets for obesity and related comorbidities. She has made significant contributions to understanding how maternal diet affects offspring across generations through epigenetic mechanisms.
Her publication record includes high-impact papers in Nature, PNAS, and Immunity, with recent work (2022-2024) revealing key mechanisms by which the sympathetic nervous system regulates adipose tissue through neuroimmune interactions. Her research demonstrates how specific immune cells at neuro-adipose interfaces serve as critical regulators of metabolic health.
- Novo Nordisk Postdoctoral Research Fellowship
- Fulford Junior Research Fellowship
Sarker collaborates with leading researchers including Professor Ana Domingos, Professor David Paterson, and Professor Irina Udalova. Her work bridges neuroscience, immunology, and metabolism, with translational implications for obesity treatment. She is actively involved in teaching and mentoring as part of her college appointments at Oxford.
