Matthew Lindaman is a Professor and Department Chair in the History & Legal Studies Department at Winona State University, where he has taught since 2001. His research focuses on immigration history, World Wars I and II, and environmental history. He teaches courses on Western Civilization, modern Europe, and history education methods.
His publications include articles in The Historian, Minnesota History, and upcoming works in Annals of Iowa. He is completing books on transatlantic immigration (Heimat in the Heartland), intercollegiate athletics administration (John L. Griffith), and American volunteers in pre-WWI France (Friends of France).

Dr. Lindaman led a $1M U.S. Department of Education grant, Blufflands and Prairies, to train teachers via Minnesota’s historical 'sense of place.' He advises teacher workshops and collaborates with state historical societies.
Outside academia, he volunteers with Winona Senior High cross-country and enjoys trail running, Nordic skiing, and family life.
