Matthew Law is a Lecturer in Environmental Change and Sustainability at Bath Spa University's School of Sciences. His teaching focuses on climate change, sustainability, Quaternary palaeoecology, GIS, and prehistoric archaeology. He is a Joint Editor-in-Chief of Open Quaternary and a STEM Ambassador, emphasizing public engagement with environmental issues. His research explores molluscs in archaeological contexts, prehistoric landscapes, and public perceptions of climate change, with a particular focus on Quaternary science and human palaeoecology.
Law's work bridges archaeology and environmental science, often involving collaborative projects. He has contributed to excavations and surveys across Britain, including sites like Queen’s Sedgemoor and South Uist. His publications span mollusc-based palaeoenvironmental analyses, archaeological site formation processes, and interdisciplinary methods in archaeology. He actively promotes open access publishing and digital public archaeology, as seen in initiatives like the Day of Archaeology project.
Law holds an Associate Membership with the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists and has edited several volumes on molluscs in archaeology. His research also addresses challenges in preservation bias and methodological approaches to land snail assemblages. He is committed to bridging academic and public spheres, using theatre and digital platforms to communicate climate change education.
