Dr Emily Gal is an archaeologist and lecturer at Lews Castle College UHI in Benbecula, part of the University of the Highlands and Islands. Her research focuses on coastal archaeology, human-environment interactions in Scottish islands, and digital heritage. She holds a PhD from the University of St Andrews, funded by MASTS, and leads modules including Archaeology Project and Prehistory of the Highlands and Islands.
Education: BA (Cardiff University), PhD (University of St Andrews).
Research interests include later prehistoric settlement patterns, environmental change in prehistory, and creative dissemination of archaeological data through projects like the Uist Virtual Archaeology Project (UVAP). UVAP develops the Uist Unearthed app, featuring augmented reality reconstructions of Hebridean archaeological sites.
Her work integrates digital heritage techniques with traditional field methods, emphasizing coastal heritage management. Awards include Fellowship of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.
Supervises student dissertations on coastal archaeology, environmental change, and digital heritage. Collaborates with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and National Lottery Heritage Fund on heritage projects.
