Dr. Matthew Kreitzer is a Professor and Dean of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics at Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU). He holds a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (Neurobiology) from the University of Illinois at Chicago (2003) and a B.S. from Olivet Nazarene University (1999). His roles include teaching anatomy, physiology, and neuroscience courses for Biology and Applied Health majors, as well as co-teaching an interdisciplinary neuroscience course with Jason Runyan (Division of Behavioral Sciences).
His research focuses on neuronal communication mechanisms, funded since 2009 by the National Science Foundation. Using retinal visual processing as a model system, his work has involved nearly 50 undergraduate students, resulting in research presentations at the Society for Neuroscience Conference and publications in PLOS One, Journal of General Physiology, and others. Dr. Kreitzer emphasizes mentoring students in undergraduate research, bridging neuroscientific and philosophical foundations to explore topics like learning, memory, perception, and religious experience.
