He holds a PhD in Communication from the University of Texas at Austin (2008), an MA from the University of New Mexico (2002), and a BBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1999). His research program examines organizational dynamics through communication lenses, with particular emphasis on nonprofit collaboration and disaster response systems.
Dr. Koschmann's research focuses on three interconnected themes: (1) The communicative constitution of organizational relationships in cross-sector collaborations, (2) Tension management in interorganizational networks, and (3) Stakeholder representation processes in civil society contexts. His fieldwork includes extensive analysis of disaster recovery coordination in the Philippines and community partnerships in Boulder County.
His scholarly publications demonstrate a consistent focus on organizational communication in crisis contexts, with recent work examining disaster resilience, participatory design in humanitarian shelter projects, and intercultural communication effectiveness. Methodologically, his work employs both qualitative and quantitative approaches to understand complex organizational phenomena.
