Research focuses on Byzantine and medieval historiography, exploring narrative structures, gender dynamics, and comparative analysis across empires. His recent publications examine citation practices in Byzantine studies and character representation in medieval chronicles. He coordinates the New Critical Approaches to the Byzantine World Research Network and investigates intersections between political economy and gender through medieval narratives.
Current projects analyze narrative hierarchies in historical writing, with a particular emphasis on marginalized voices in chronicles. Research methods combine narratology, queer theory, and critical historiography to deconstruct power dynamics in textual representation.
