Matthew John Holian is an Associate Professor of Economics at San José State University (SJSU). He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Ohio State University (2008). His research focuses on energy policy, urban economics, environmental economics, and the application of econometric methods to public policy analysis, particularly using data from the American Community Survey (ACS). He is affiliated with the Mineta Transportation Institute (MTI), contributing to studies on transportation policy, energy codes, and urban sustainability.
His research interests include the impact of building energy codes, urban form on vehicle ownership, and the integration of multimodal data into policy analysis. He has published extensively on topics such as low-carbon policies, air pollution in Indian cities, and the economic implications of urbanization. Holian is also active in pedagogical innovation, emphasizing reproducible research and the use of open-source tools like R in teaching econometrics.
