Matthew J. Rowe is an Associate Professor of Practice and Coordinator of Retention at the School of Anthropology, University of Arizona. He specializes in collector-collaboration methodologies in archaeology, focusing on Paleoindian sites in Northern Arizona and advocating for Indigenous knowledge integration in environmental policy. His research intersects climate justice, cultural preservation laws, and tribal consultation practices under NEPA and NHPA.
Rowe co-chairs the Society for American Archaeology's Collector-Collaboration Interest Group and leads the Northern Arizona Paleoindian Project. He has published extensively on topics including zooarchaeology, paleoenvironmental reconstruction, and policy analysis. Courses taught include Zooarchaeology, Environmental Archaeology, and interdisciplinary anthropology.
His current projects emphasize Indigenous food systems restoration and legal frameworks for cultural preservation. He collaborates with tribal scholars to address climate justice through archaeological and policy interventions.
