Matthew J. Countryman

Matthew J. Countryman is an Associate Professor of History and Afroamerican and African Studies at the University of Michigan. He specializes in African American social movements, race relations, and post-civil rights era politics. His work bridges 20th-century U.S. history with contemporary racial justice discourse.

Education:

Research focuses on the intersection of civil rights, Black Power movements, and public memory. He has contributed to academic journals like the Journal of Urban History and public platforms such as The Conversation.
