Matthew J Gibney is the Elizabeth Colson Professor of Politics and Forced Migration at the University of Oxford's Refugee Studies Centre and a Fellow of Linacre College. A political scientist specializing in refugees, migration control, and citizenship, his work bridges normative political theory and comparative politics. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge, where he was a Commonwealth Scholar, and a bachelor's degree from Monash University.
His research examines the evolution of asylum in liberal democracies, ethical dilemmas in deportation/expulsion, and forced migration's impact on state structures. Key themes include denationalization policies, refugee ethics, and interstate justice frameworks.
