Martin Lemberg-Pedersen is an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Warwick's School of Politics and International Studies (PAIS), joining in 2021. He currently serves as Head of Policy and Society for Amnesty International Denmark. Previously, he held roles as Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen's Centre for Advanced Migration Studies and Assistant Professor at Aalborg University. His research focuses on Western asylum, border, and deportation practices, with emphases on EU externalization policies in Mediterranean contexts and postcolonial trajectories in forced migration studies.
Lemberg-Pedersen’s academic career includes a PhD and Post Doc from the University of Copenhagen, followed by teaching roles across institutions. His research has been funded by grants like the Carlsberg Foundation’s 'Between Asylum and Security' project (2013-2016) and IRC Denmark’s postcolonial displacement project (2017-2020). He has published widely in journals like Global Affairs, Citizenship Studies, and Forced Migration Review.
His work critiques EU border externalization, linking it to historical colonial legacies and examining its humanitarian consequences. Notable projects include the Advancing Alternative Migration Governance (AdMiGov) initiative under Horizon 2020. He has also explored Denmark’s externalization plans to Rwanda and Africa, emphasizing ethical and geopolitical dimensions.
Lemberg-Pedersen supervises PhD students and has coordinated courses on International Political Economy, Refugee Studies, and Normative Philosophy. Beyond academia, he guides tours in Copenhagen contextualizing the city’s colonial history. His interdisciplinary approach integrates political science, postcolonial theory, and migration studies to challenge exclusionary policies.
