Matthew Hunt is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School in Anaheim, California. He serves on multiple committees including the Institutional Review Board (IRB), Faculty Scholarship Support Committee, and Clinical PsyD Admissions Committee. Additionally, he is the faculty sponsor for the True Colors LGBTQ+ graduate student organization since 2021.
Dr. Hunt earned his Ph.D. in Psychology and Social Behavior from the University of California, Irvine in 2013, following a Master's degree in Social Ecology from the same institution in 2009. His undergraduate education includes a B.A. from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (2004) and another B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh (1998).
Dr. Hunt's research focuses on social psychology, particularly examining cognitive and affective influences on moral and political judgments. His work spans several specialized areas including motivated cognition, emotion, moral and political judgment and decision-making, with publications that often explore cultural identity intersections with psychological processes. He has taught Social Psychology, Statistics, Research Methods, History & Systems of Psychology, and Human Sexuality at The Chicago School.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on cultural factors in mental health, relationship dynamics, and educational impacts. Dr. Hunt's work frequently examines how psychological processes intersect with cultural identity, particularly in minority populations like Latinx communities and Egyptian Americans.

With nearly two decades of teaching experience across various educational settings including UC Irvine, UC San Diego, community colleges, and The Chicago School, Dr. Hunt emphasizes supporting students' needs for self-direction and competence in his teaching philosophy. He serves as a dissertation chair and reader for doctoral students and has also taught courses on motivation and emotion, health psychology, cultural psychology, and forensic psychology across multiple institutions.
