Matthew Hofer is a Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of New Mexico (UNM), where he also serves as Director of Literature. His research bridges poetry, poetics, and political thought, with a focus on modernist traditions from Pound to contemporary projectivists. Hofer’s work emphasizes experimental aesthetics and humor studies, alongside science fiction and political theories.
Hofer has published extensively, including his monograph *'Omnicompetent Modernists'* (2022) and seven book-length editorial projects. He founded the UNM Press series *'Recencies,'* which preserves overlooked 20th-century American poetics. His writing appears in journals like *Modernism/Modernity* and *Contemporary Literature*, and he contributes to edited volumes such as *The Cambridge History of American Poetry*.
His current projects include a book on postwar American poetry and correspondence, as well as a potential study on 'sparseness' in 20th-century writing. While no formal scientific awards are listed, his editorial and scholarly work reflects significant contributions to literary preservation and critical discourse.
Hofer advises through his academic roles and has no explicitly noted grants or part-time commitments. He collaborates with the *Recencies* series and engages with interdisciplinary teams focused on modernist and contemporary literary analysis.
