Matthew Hamilton is an Assistant Professor at the Human Rights Faculty of the University of Winnipeg. He holds a PhD from the University of Toronto and specializes in political theory, legal theory, and critical theory. His research focuses on democratic governance, human rights, genocide studies, post-colonialism, and global justice. He has co-authored a chapter in the 2023 publication Rousseau Today: Interdisciplinary Essays, exploring sovereignty as responsibility. His current projects include re-examining Jurgen Habermas' discourse theory of law and developing a Critical Theory of Human Rights.
Education: PhD in Political Theory, University of Toronto.
Research Interests: History of political thought, legal/constitutional theory, public policy, and public administration. Ongoing projects include analyses of morality, democracy, and law through the works of Fuller, Hart, and Waldron.
