معرفی
Professor Matthew Fisher is a leading academic in fungal disease epidemiology at Imperial College London's School of Public Health, part of the Faculty of Medicine. He leads the 'Fungal Pathogens' theme in the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis and co-directs the Georgina Mace Centre for the Living Planet. His research integrates genomic, epidemiological, and ecological approaches to understand emerging fungal threats across humans, wildlife, and plants. Key areas include antifungal resistance, climate impacts on disease dynamics, and zoonotic pathogen spillover.
Research interests focus on evolutionary frameworks to study fungal pathogen emergence, with a particular emphasis on the interplay between environmental changes and disease spread. He has pioneered citizen science initiatives for environmental surveillance of drug-resistant fungi. Notable affiliations include the Microbiome Network, Fungal Science Network, and Climate and Health initiatives. Awards include CIFAR fellowship in 'Fungal Kingdom: Threats and Opportunities.'
Key contributions include genomic analyses of Aspergillus resistance, amphibian chytrid fungus impacts, and multi-azole resistant pathogens. His work bridges clinical, ecological, and environmental health sectors, emphasizing One Health principles. Ongoing studies explore fungal biodiversity and planetary health, with active collaborations across microbiology, ecology, and public health disciplines.
