Matteo De Beni is a Full Professor of Spanish Language, Translation and Linguistics at the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, University of Verona. His academic position is within the SPAN-01/C academic sector with research focus spanning multiple ERC classification areas including Pragmatics, Sociolinguistics, Theoretical Linguistics, and Cultural Heritage studies.
Professor De Beni's research interests primarily focus on the historical development of the Spanish language across several centuries, with particular emphasis on diachronic lexicology and lexicography. His work explores technical-scientific terminology within Spanish language evolution, utilizing corpus linguistics methodologies and digital humanities approaches to analyze linguistic data. His research spans multiple interdisciplinary areas including linguistic anthropology, discourse analysis, and computational linguistics.
His research has been organized through several significant projects including the Project of Excellence 'Digital Humanities applied to foreign languages and literatures' (2018-2022), the Project of Excellence 'Inclusive Humanities' (2023-2027), and the PRIN project 'A new digital space for the lexicographical heritage' (2023-2025) where he serves as coordinator of the University of Verona unit. He also participates in an international research project funded by the Spanish government focusing on digital editions of historical Spanish dictionaries.

Professor De Beni serves in multiple administrative and academic leadership roles including as Department Director, member of the Department Council (Consiglio di Dipartimento), and member of various committees including the Research Committee and Internationalization Committee. He coordinates professional development courses and serves as a referent for teacher training in foreign languages. His research is conducted through three primary research groups: LEHist (focusing on Spanish lexicon history), Gnome-UniVr (specializing in Spanish phraseology with diachronic approach), and TraCTIH (studying scientific and technical translations related to Hispanic domain).
His teaching portfolio includes courses on History of the Spanish Language, Spanish Language and Linguistics, and specialized Spanish language instruction for cultural heritage and tourism contexts across multiple degree programs including Master's degrees in Languages, Literatures and Digital Culture, and Promotion and Management of Territorial Heritage.
