Elena Dal Maso is an Associate Professor at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, affiliated with the Department of Comparative Linguistic and Cultural Studies and the Interdepartmental School of Economics, Languages and Entrepreneurship for International Exchanges. She teaches Spanish language and translation courses across multiple degree programs including Languages, Civilizations and Language Sciences, Linguistic and Cultural Mediation, and specialized programs in Economics and Tourism.
Dr. Dal Maso's research focuses on contrastive phraseology between Spanish and Italian, with particular expertise in lexicology, semantics, and historical linguistics of the Spanish language. Her work bridges theoretical linguistics with practical applications in digital lexicography and translation studies. She has developed significant expertise in diachronic studies of Spanish language with a special focus on scientific terminology.
Her publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on phraseological dictionaries and contrastive analysis between Spanish and Italian. Over the past five years, her research has evolved from theoretical studies of phraseological equivalence toward more applied digital lexicography projects, culminating in her involvement with the Digital Multilingual Phraseological Dictionary (DFMD). Her work shows strong interdisciplinary connections between computational linguistics, translation studies, and specialized language teaching.
Dr. Dal Maso serves on several editorial boards including "Paremia" as an external evaluator, "Mise en Abyme," the "Pliegos Hispánicos" series, and as Spanish Language Editor for "Costellazioni. Rivista di Lingue e Letterature." She is actively involved in multiple research projects including the Digital Multilingual Phraseological Dictionary (DFMD) in collaboration with universities in Croatia and Spain, the Spanish Lexicon in its History (LEHist) project, and scientific/technical translations of Hispanic interest (TraCTIH).
Her office hours are held on Tuesdays from 9:00 to 11:00 at Palazzo San Paolo in Treviso and by appointment on Thursdays from 12:00 to 14:00 at Ca' Bernardo office in Venice, reflecting her dual-campus responsibilities.
