Matt Weinger is the Norman Ty Smith Chair in Patient Safety and Medical Simulation, Professor of Anesthesiology and Civil and Environmental Engineering at Vanderbilt University. He serves as Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Anesthesiology and Director of the Center for Research and Innovation in Systems Safety (CRISS) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His research focuses on human factors, systems engineering, healthcare informatics, and decision-making in complex systems.
Education includes an M.D. from the University of California-San Diego, an M.S. in Biological Sciences, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. He holds dual professorships across the School of Engineering and Medical School.
Weinger leads CRISS, which advances patient safety through interdisciplinary systems research. His work integrates cyber-physical systems, risk analysis, and engineering principles into healthcare and surgery. He actively contributes to academic leadership roles and collaborates across disciplines to improve healthcare delivery systems.
