Dr. Matt Watson is a Senior Lecturer in the TC Beirne School of Law at the University of Queensland, and an affiliate of the Centre for Public, International and Comparative Law. He teaches Jurisprudence and Administrative Law, with research focusing on legal and political philosophy, multiculturalism, minority rights (especially language rights), constitutionalism, and refugee resettlement ethics. He completed a DPhil in Law at the University of Oxford (2016), supervised by Professor Leslie Green, and has led tutorials in Jurisprudence.

- Ethics of religious/cultural factors in refugee policies
Recent Work Trends: Recent publications explore Buddhist natural law theory, legal challenges in Indigenous governance, and ethical dimensions of refugee resettlement. His 2023 work examines the applicability of the Canadian Charter to Aboriginal governments, while earlier work addressed religious freedom vs. equality tensions in landmark Canadian court cases.
Advising: Currently supervising research on constitutional derogations during emergencies and the rule of law. Previously advised on legal theory related to John Waldron's jurisprudence.
