Matt Ward serves as an Adjunct Lecturer in Percussion at the Conservatory of Music within the School of Visual, Media and Performing Arts at Brooklyn College. A dedicated percussionist cited by The New York Times as "a fine soloist," he specializes in performing and commissioning new music with a particular focus on chamber repertoire. Ward maintains active performance roles as principal player with Argento Chamber Players, Talujon, and American Modern Ensemble, and co-founded the percussion trio Timetable.
His educational background includes a Bachelor of Music from the Manhattan School of Music and Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from SUNY Stony Brook. Ward also holds a faculty position at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College.
Ward's artistic practice centers on contemporary percussion performance, with significant contributions to premiering works by leading modern composers including Bernhard Lang, Georg Friedrich Haas, and Philippe Hurel. His performance history includes notable engagements at the Music Academy of the West, Tanglewood Music Center under Seiji Ozawa and George Benjamin, and the American premiere of Pierre Boulez's Sur Incises.
Recognized with the Ridley-Tree Fellowship at the Music Academy of the West (1998), Ward's career demonstrates sustained excellence in new music interpretation.
Through institutional partnerships with 92nd Street Y, Westchester Philharmonic, Marquis Studios, and Carnegie Hall, Ward conducts extensive educational outreach programs for elementary school children across New York City. His performance activities extend to collaborations with Albany Symphony, Talea Ensemble, SEM Ensemble, The Orchestra of the League of Composers, Sequitor, and Riverside Symphony.
