Matt Robinson, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Oregon State University, affiliated with the School of Exercise, Sport, and Health Sciences and the Translational Metabolism Research Laboratory. His research focuses on mitochondrial protein turnover and respiration in metabolic disorders, particularly Type 2 Diabetes. Key areas include exercise-induced metabolic adaptations, high-fat diet effects, and molecular mechanisms underlying insulin resistance.
Robinson investigates how aerobic exercise and dietary interventions influence skeletal muscle mitochondrial function, leveraging zebrafish models, human studies, and mouse experiments. His work bridges basic science and translational research, with implications for diabetes, aging, and metabolic health. He is currently accepting PhD students for advanced training in exercise physiology and metabolic disease research.
Recent publications explore nitrate's role in exercise performance, mitochondrial adaptations to resistance training, and the impact of xanthohumol derivatives on hepatic steatosis. These studies highlight metabolic pathways, protein synthesis regulation, and mitochondrial quality control mechanisms.
