Matt L. Huffman is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at UC Irvine and Associate Dean of Student Programs in the School of Social Sciences. His research examines patterns of gender and racial inequality within organizations and labor markets, with recent focus on public sector employment changes.
Current projects investigate how COVID-19 affected parental employment by gender and earnings, and how sexual orientation influences workplace authority attainment. His work combines quantitative analyses of labor market data with organizational theory to understand inequality mechanisms.
Professor Huffman teaches courses on inequality, gender and work, and research methods. His publications have appeared in leading sociology journals and inform policies addressing workplace discrimination and labor market disparities.
