Professor Matt Kiernan is a leading academic at Northumbria University's Nursing Midwifery and Health Department, serving as Director of The Northern Hub for Veterans and Military Families' Research. A former Royal Navy mental health nurse with combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan, he transitioned to academia after earning a BSc in Medical Science (Sheffield University, 2001) and a PhD in Philosophy (Nottingham University, 2011). His research focuses on veterans' health, military family dynamics, and PTSD treatment, with an emphasis on data-driven solutions like the MONARCH study and the CNIV project.
Key roles include Chair of the British Army's Infantry Training Center Advisory Panel and Academic Advisor to the Office of Veterans Affairs.
