Matt Huentelman is a Professor and Director of the Early Detection and Prevention Division at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), where he also serves as Scientific Director of the Center for Rare Childhood Disorders. His research focuses on applying genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic approaches to understand neurological diseases and traits.
Dr. Huentelman's research interests span Alzheimer's disease, aging, cognition, and rare diseases. His laboratory leverages '-omics' technologies to identify individual risk factors for neurological conditions, understand cognitive aging differences, and develop approaches for early disease detection. He developed the MindCrowd.org platform and mobile laboratory approaches to study brain performance across diverse populations. His work on rare diseases focuses on genetic dissection through whole genome sequencing, particularly studying nuclear families affected by conditions that manifest when both patients and parents can be studied.
His publication record demonstrates significant contributions to Alzheimer's disease genetics, with numerous high-impact papers identifying genetic risk factors and exploring disease mechanisms. His recent work includes investigations into neuropathology endophenotypes, AI applications for rare disease diagnosis, and resistance mechanisms in Alzheimer's disease.
