Michael Belloy, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at Washington University in Saint Louis, affiliated with the Neurogenomics and Informatics Center (NGI) and the Hope Center for Neurological Disorders. He leads the Belloy Lab which focuses on innovative research in age-related neurological and dementia disorders.
His academic background encompasses data analytics, brain imaging research, neurology, Alzheimer's disease, population genetics, and functional genomics. Prior to joining Washington University, he was a postdoc and instructor at Stanford University in Michael Greicius's lab, where he focused on identifying genetic variants that protect against APOE*4-related Alzheimer's risk. He earned his PhD from the University of Antwerp in Annemie Van der Linden's lab, where he conducted functional brain imaging studies using rodent models.
Dr. Belloy's research employs a multi-modal, big-data approach that integrates genetics, multi-omics, brain imaging (MRI and PET), endophenotypes, clinical findings, and histopathological data. His work currently focuses on three key areas: sex dimorphism in Alzheimer's disease genetics (supported by an R00 grant), understanding the influence of ancestry on Alzheimer's disease genetics, and merging brain imaging with genetic and multi-omics data to examine disease heterogeneity and resilience.
His recent publications demonstrate significant contributions to Alzheimer's disease research, particularly in understanding APOE variants, genetic risk factors across diverse populations, and sex-specific differences in disease mechanisms. His work spans genetics, neuroimaging, and molecular biology approaches to uncover novel therapeutic targets.

Dr. Belloy serves as vice-chair of the Sex and Gender Differences Professional Interest Area for the Alzheimer's Association. The Belloy Lab is supported by the National Institutes of Aging, Cure Alzheimer's Fund, and the Alzheimer's Association.
The lab operates within the Neurogenomics and Informatics Center, collaborating with researchers across multiple institutions to advance understanding of neurodegenerative diseases through innovative genomic and bioinformatic approaches.
