Matt Holman is an adjunct faculty member at Manhattan School of Music and Hunter College specializing in Jazz Arts. Hailed by the New York Times as a “conscientious” and “perceptive young trumpeter” and by Fred Hersch as “a creative and thoughtful improviser with a world-class sound,” he excels as a composer, conductor, bandleader, and soloist in leading ensembles including Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society and the John Hollenbeck Large Ensemble.
His artistic research spans jazz composition, improvisation, and interdisciplinary music creation. Albums like "When Flooded" (2013) and "The Tenth Muse" (2017) demonstrate innovative chamber-jazz techniques blending influences from Wayne Shorter, Shostakovich, and ancient Greek poetry. Holman’s scholarly work includes research on Jimmy Giuffre supported by the Morroe Berger-Benny Carter Jazz Research Fellowship.
