Matt Gray is a Professor of Clinical Psychology in the Department of Psychology at the University of Wyoming. Since 2014 he has held the rank of Full Professor, having previously served as Associate and Assistant Professor at the same institution since 2002. He also completed an NIMH Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the National Center for PTSD and an internship focused on traumatic stress at the Medical University of South Carolina.
His academic training includes:
- Ph.D. in Psychology, University of Mississippi (2000)
- M.S. in Psychology, Drake University (1995)
- B.A. in Psychology, Creighton University (1993)
Gray’s research centers on clinical psychology with specific emphasis on sexual violence prevention, intimate partner violence, and traumatic stress. He is particularly interested in developing and evaluating evidence-based interventions to reduce sexual assault and domestic violence, as well as understanding the psychological mechanisms underlying trauma recovery. His work also explores the concept of reverse psychology in therapeutic contexts.
He currently mentors a team of dedicated graduate students whose projects align closely with his research agenda, focusing on marginalized communities, treatment efficacy, and prevention strategies for sexual and domestic violence.
Laboratory & Team: Gray leads an active research group within the Department of Psychology at the University of Wyoming, located in the Biological Sciences Building. His team collaborates with community organizations and national centers to advance trauma-informed care and violence prevention initiatives.
