Mats Målqvist is a Professor at Uppsala University's Department of Women's and Children's Health and the Center for Health and Sustainability. He leads the UUniCORN (Uppsala University Conflicting Objectives Nexus) and Swedesd, a cross-disciplinary center for health equity and sustainability. His work spans global health, maternal and child health, health systems, and social sustainability in low- and middle-income countries (Nepal, Vietnam, Uganda, Tanzania).

His research focuses on social sustainability, health equity, and implementation of health interventions. Key areas include maternal and neonatal health, family planning, antimicrobial resistance, and the intersection of health systems with sustainable development goals. He has published over 120 articles and supervised numerous PhD students.
Recent publications address homelessness in Ethiopia, family planning in Uganda, neonatal hypothermia interventions, and AMR policy alignment with SDGs. His work emphasizes qualitative methods and interdisciplinary collaboration.
He holds leadership roles in academic networks (ANSER, SIHI Sweden) and serves on editorial boards (Scandinavian Journal of Public Health). His clinical background includes ST-internships in emergency and pediatric medicine (2007-2013). He advocates for equity-driven global health research and community-based interventions.
