Mats Boijs is a Professor of Mathematics at KTH Royal Institute of Technology since 2013 and has served as Head of the Department of Mathematics since 2020. His research focuses on commutative algebra and algebraic geometry, particularly in syzygies, Hilbert functions, and the Boij-Söderberg theory, which has impacted cohomology of vector bundles. He is actively involved in advancing theoretical frameworks with applications in physics, biostatistics, and computer science.
Boijs leads research initiatives such as the VR-funded PhD project on 'Powers of Linear Forms and Lefschetz Properties,' exploring the Fröberg and Fröberg-Iarrobino conjectures. He teaches courses including Applied Linear Algebra, Linear Algebra (Advanced), and The History of Mathematics, serving as examiner and course responsible. His outreach includes roles in Swedish mathematical education committees, such as organizing the 'Skolornas matematiktävling' competition.
As an academic leader, he balances research innovation with educational responsibilities, fostering interdisciplinary connections through his work on algebraic structures and their broader implications.
