Matilde Rosina

Dr. Matilde Rosina is Lecturer in Global Challenges at Brunel University London, Deputy Director of the Centre for Italian Politics at King's College London, and Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics. With a PhD in International Political Economy from King's College London (2020), she has established herself as a leading expert on migration policy in Europe.

Dr. Rosina's research focuses on the political economy of international migration, with specific emphasis on European migration governance, the criminalization of irregular migration, and the external dimensions of migration policy. Her work bridges academic rigor with policy relevance, challenging conventional wisdom about migration deterrence while proposing more effective approaches to migration governance. Fluent in four languages (English, French, Italian, Mandarin), she brings a multilingual and multinational perspective to her research.

Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on contemporary migration challenges, with particular attention to EU migration policy responses to the Ukraine war, the political discourse surrounding migration cooperation with countries like Libya and Albania, and the intersection of migration control with gender, race, and class. Her research shows that criminalization of migration often creates vicious cycles of insecurity rather than reducing migration flows.
