Marianna Griffini is an Assistant Professor in International Relations and Anthropology at Northeastern University London, part of the Department of Politics, International Relations, Sociology and Anthropology. She holds a PhD in European and International Studies from King’s College London and previously served there as Lecturer (2020–2023) and Deputy Director of the Centre for Italian Politics (2020–2023). She is affiliated with the EU COST Action CA22165 addressing radical polarization and digital media challenges in Europe.
Her research focuses on populism, institutionalization of populist parties, Italian politics, and intersections of race, gender, and migration. She teaches courses on comparative politics, political anthropology, and international political economy. Her administrative roles include co-convenor of the Policies and Governance in Europe (PAGE) Double Degree program.
Marianna’s work examines topics like colonial memory in Italy’s far right, migration cooperation policies, and gender discourse in electoral campaigns. She actively engages with media (BBC, CNN, Bloomberg) and public events (e.g., 2024 ‘Politics of Memory’ event in Cremona, Italy). Her teaching emphasizes supervision of undergraduate/postgraduate dissertations and critical analysis of democracy and post-colonialism.
