Dr. Matias Cortes is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at York University's Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, with affiliations as a Research Fellow at IZA and CReAM. His research examines labor market dynamics including occupational mobility, wage inequality patterns, and technological change impacts.
Education includes:
- Ph.D. in Economics from University of British Columbia
- Bachelor in Economics from Universidad de Costa Rica
Research focuses on task content of occupations, firm heterogeneity, and business cycle impacts on human capital acquisition. Current projects investigate how technological change and market concentration affect wage distribution across demographic groups.
Recent publications analyze pandemic-era labor market disparities, countercyclical education patterns, and evolving skill demands in high-paying occupations. His work demonstrates consistent focus on distributional consequences of economic shocks across occupations and demographic groups.
