Jan Stuhler is a Professor of Economics at the University of Carlos III de Madrid, specializing in Labour and Public Economics with a focus on intergenerational mobility and immigration. He holds affiliations with the Swedish Institute for Social Research, Centre for Research and Analysis of Migration (CReAM), Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), and Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA). Prior to his current role, he earned his PhD at University College London (under Christian Dustmann and Uta Schönberg) and completed undergraduate studies at the University of Bonn with a visiting period at UC Berkeley. He served as a Visiting Scholar at Harvard (2017) and Visiting Professor/Lecturer at MIT (2021/22).
His research explores topics such as multigenerational inequality, labor market integration of migrants, and the economic consequences of demographic shifts. Recent work includes analyses of geographic mobility patterns and the impact of economic crises on career choices. He is also a co-editor at Labour Economics.
