Mathilde Hauge Lerche is an Associate Professor and Senior Scientist Group Leader at the Department of Health Technology, Technical University of Denmark (DTU). Her research focuses on hyperpolarization techniques for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy in diagnostics, particularly for metabolic imaging applications in biotechnology and biomedical engineering.
- Role: Academic staff with leadership responsibilities
- Key Affiliation: DTU Health Technology
Her work addresses the fundamental challenge of short signal lifetimes in hyperpolarization, developing biomarkers, methods, and equipment for in cell and in vivo studies to enable early diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring of diseases like Alzheimer's. Research spans dynamic nuclear polarization (dDNP), metabolic flux analysis, and engineering solutions for clinical translation.
Recent publications highlight advancements in:
- Adapting clinical MRI scanners for hyperpolarized 13C rodent brain imaging
- High-field dDNP contrast agent development
- Continuous-flow bioreactor systems for metabolic analysis
She supervises PhD students in projects funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark and the Danish National Research Foundation, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals through medical innovation.
