Dr. Mathieu Blondeel is an Assistant Professor in the Environmental Policy Analysis department at VU Amsterdam's Faculty of Science. His research focuses on global energy and climate politics, particularly the geopolitics of energy system transformation and the political economy of fossil fuels. He holds a PhD in International Politics from Ghent University and has worked as a Research Fellow at Warwick Business School.
Education includes a PhD (2019) and MSc (2015) in International Politics from Ghent University, alongside a BSc in Political Science (2013) and a Programme d'études politiques annuel (2013) from Sciences Po Aix-en-Provence, France.
His research interests span energy transition dynamics, oil industry strategies, and climate governance frameworks. Notable projects include analyzing the EU's energy crisis narratives and multilateral cooperation strategies. He contributes to media discussions on energy policy and climate challenges through expert commentaries.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on environmental policy, interdisciplinary research design, and resource management. He actively supervises MSc dissertations across political science, environment & resource management, and global environmental policy programs.
