Mathias James Venning is a Researcher III at the Centre for the Study of the Sciences and the Humanities (University of Bergen) and affiliated with NORCE Norwegian Research Center AS. His work focuses on climate services for adaptation in East Africa, particularly within the H2020-EU funded CONFER project.

Research Interests: Mathias explores the value chain of climate services, emphasizing co-production with stakeholders to enhance water, energy, and food security in sub-Saharan Africa. His work bridges interdisciplinary methodologies and sustainable development, focusing on seasonal climate fluctuations and their socio-agricultural impacts.
Projects: He is a core member of the CONFER project, where he contributes to systematic mapping of climate services, stakeholder analysis, and user needs assessment in East Africa. His research also intersects with the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) and institutional governance dynamics.
Publications & Outreach: Mathias’ research spans agricultural adaptation, seasonal forecasting, and co-produced climate services. He has presented at the NESS2024 Nordic Environmental Social Science Conference and contributed to the Time & Society journal, highlighting the interplay between temporal planning and climate resilience in Ethiopia.
