Mathias Fridahl

Mathias Fridahl is a Senior Associate Professor at Linköping University's Department of Thematic Studies, specializing in Environmental Change. His research focuses on international climate policy, negotiations, and the governance of climate finance and technologies like BECCS and biochar. Fridahl holds a PhD in Water and Environmental Studies (2013) and has participated in 16 UN Climate Change Conferences. He serves as a contact point for the IPCC and UNFCCC and was recently nominated to Sweden's Climate Policy Council.

His work explores climate financing mechanisms, Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs), and carbon removal technologies. Notable projects include 'Governing NAMAs' (with partners in Brazil, Canada, Germany) and analyses of the Green Climate Fund's role in supporting developing nations. He also investigates public and political perceptions of bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS).

Fridahl teaches across disciplines, including environmental history and international law. His research employs statistical and qualitative methods, drawing on discourse theory and governance frameworks. He has reviewed for journals like Frontiers in Climate and co-authored over 50 publications since 2008.
