Mathew Fleury is an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University (SFU), an Instructor at North Island College, and a Research Associate at the BC Centre for Disease Control. He holds a PhD in Health Sciences (current) and degrees from Queen’s University, Laurentian University, and Edinburgh Medical School. His work focuses on Indigenous health, harm reduction, accessibility, and equity. Previously, he managed Indigenous Alcohol Harm Reduction programs and led research initiatives at the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), where he was promoted to Manager, Research and Knowledge Exchange in 2021.

Research interests include Indigenous public health sovereignty, mental health, substance use, and community-based approaches to decolonization. He advocates for Two-Spirited and marginalized communities, integrating Cree and Michif teachings into his work. Awards recognize his contributions to accessibility, harm reduction campaigns, and anti-racism initiatives.
He oversees large-scale research at FNHA and collaborates with global health organizations. His career bridges academia, policy, and grassroots advocacy, emphasizing cultural safety and resilience.
