Dr. Mel Lefebvre (they/them) is a Two-Spirit (2S) Michif, Nehiyaw, French, and Irish scholar and practitioner at Concordia University. As a member of the School of Community and Public Affairs, their work bridges academia, artistry, and community advocacy, focusing on Indigenous sovereignty, cultural revival, and social justice. They integrate traditional tattooing as a healing practice for urban Indigenous communities, particularly 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and Indigenous women.
- Research Areas: Artistic practices, ancestral skin marking, Indigenous futurisms, quantum cosmology, environmental justice, and sovereignty.
- Community Roles: Vice-president of the Native Women's Shelter of Montreal (NWSM), co-creator of Kanekó:ta Indigenous Adult Education School, and advisor to the Montreal Indigenous Community NETWORK.
Teaching includes courses on First Peoples & Education, Indigenous Futurisms, and Indigenous Research Methods. Their publications address Indigenous child welfare reforms, cultural preservation, and community-led solutions for Indigenous health.
