Mateo Jarquin is an Assistant Professor of History and Director of the Program in War, Diplomacy, and Society at Chapman University's Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. A historian of revolutions in the Global South, his work bridges Latin American history, international relations, and political development. He earned his PhD from Harvard University and a BA from Grinnell College.

His research focuses on the transnational impact of revolutions in the Global South, particularly the Sandinista movement in Nicaragua, analyzing intersections of development, democracy, and Cold War geopolitics. Recent publications include his 2024 monograph The Sandinista Revolution: A Global Latin American History and op-eds in TIME, The New York Times, and El País.
His scholarly output spans geopolitical analyses of U.S. intervention in Latin America, pandemic governance in Nicaragua, and comparative studies of authoritarian resilience. Articles emphasize revolutionary memory, regime continuity, and transnational political dynamics.
