Matan Rubinstein is a Professor of Music at Marlboro College, where he has been on the faculty since 2011. He is a composer, improviser, and electronic musician active in contemporary classical, jazz, film, dance, and interactive media.
His educational background includes:

- M.M. from University of Wisconsin – Madison (2003)
- D.M.A. from University of Wisconsin – Madison (2009)
Rubinstein's research and creative practice focuses on composition, electronic music, and improvisation. He frequently collaborates with artists in dance and film, creating interdisciplinary works. His teaching philosophy integrates composition, improvisation, and performance, emphasizing that musical understanding is strongest when grounded in practice.
His recent compositions explore the integration of acoustic instruments with electronics and modular structures, reflecting a trend toward collaborative and interdisciplinary performance in contemporary chamber music.
Rubinstein has advised numerous Plan students at Marlboro College, including Helen Pinch (2018), Lysha Smith (2018), Tim Bedford (2017), Logan Davis (2017), Liana Nuse (2016), Sarah Scott (2016), John Ivers (2016), and Mia Bertelli (2015). Their projects span literary analysis in music, meditation and sound, free improvisation, and cultural studies of popular music.
He co-founded the Marlboro Slipstream Group, a quartet of composer/performers in residence at Marlboro, and collaborated with John Willis on a multimedia piece for the 'Eyes on the Land' project at Shelburne Museum.
