Kristin Horrigan is a Professor of Dance at Marlboro College, where she has taught since 2006. As a choreographer, improviser, scholar, and educator, she champions embodied learning through movement exploration, community engagement, and critical analysis of body politics within cultural and activist contexts.
Her educational background includes:
- B.A. in Chemistry from Princeton University (1999)
- M.F.A. from The Ohio State University (2002)
Professor Horrigan's research examines how gender norms influence physical interaction in contact improvisation and community-based choreography. She founded Dance Generators (2006-2014), an intergenerational dance company, and created site-specific works like Stolzenhagen Moves in rural Germany. Her practice breaks down barriers to dance participation by uniting diverse age groups, abilities, and cultural backgrounds around community concerns.
She has mentored numerous senior projects at Marlboro College, including Clayton Clemetson's Rhythms of becoming (2019), Liana Nuse's exploration of global music paradigms (2016), and Kenyon Acton's study of performance art history (2011). Her advising emphasizes developing critical frameworks for dance while honoring students' personal movement histories and creative visions.
