Pamela Vail is a Professor of Dance and Co-Director of the Dance Program. She is a practicing choreographer, performer, and improviser with over three decades of experience. Vail is a founding member of Yanira Castro | a canary torsi and co-founder of The Architects improvisation ensemble. Her work spans live performance, dance film collaborations with Jeremy Moss, and pedagogical initiatives.
Education: B.A., Middlebury College; M.F.A., Smith College.
Teaching focuses on ballet, modern dance technique, choreography, kinesiology, and movement-media integration. Courses include compositional improvisation, advanced modern performance, and dance company leadership. Her research interests emphasize improvisation practices, screendance, and the intersection of movement with interdisciplinary media.
