Massimo Leone is a Professor of Philosophy of Communication and Cultural Semiotics at the University of Turin, Italy, and part-time Professor of Semiotics at the University of Shanghai, China. He serves as Director of the Institute for Religious Studies at the Bruno Kessler Foundation, Trento, and is an associate member of Cambridge Digital Humanities, University of Cambridge. His research focuses on semiotics, religious studies, visual studies, and linguistic anthropology. He has authored 15 books, edited over 50 volumes, and published over 500 articles. Notable awards include ERC grants (2018, 2022). He holds editorial roles at Lexia, Sign Systems Studies, and multiple book series.
