Massimo Fichera is an Academy of Finland Research Fellow and Docent in EU Law at the University of Helsinki, Faculty of Law. His work bridges European Union law and constitutional theory, focusing on the interplay between EU law and member states' legal systems.
- Current Project: 'The EU Judiciary and Constitutional Time - The Significance of Time in Constitutional Change' (monograph in progress).
- Previous Project: 'Narratives of Europe as an Area of Freedom, Security and Justice' (funded by the Academy of Finland, led to the 2018 book 'The Foundations of the EU As A Polity').
Research Interests include EU constitutionalism, constitutional theory, public law, comparative constitutional theory, and transnational law. His work employs a law and society approach to analyze legal-political conflicts during European integration, particularly crises related to refugees, economic policy, rule of law, and Brexit.

- Oñati International Institute for the Sociology of Law (2014)
- European University Institute and IASH (2017-2018)
Education: PhD in Law from the University of Edinburgh. He is also qualified at the Italian Bar. Currently, he is part of the Advisory Board of the Centre of Excellence in Law, Identity, and the European Narratives at the University of Helsinki and contributes to the ERC Project 'Crosslocations'.
