Mascha Gugganig is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ottawa, holding the Alex Trebek Postdoctoral Fellowship for AI and Environment. She is affiliated with the Centre for Law, Technology and Society (CLTS), the Institute for Science, Society and Policy (ISSP), and the School of Sociological and Anthropological Studies. She holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from the University of British Columbia (UBC).
Her research focuses on Indigenous Food Systems, Digital Agriculture, and Science and Technology Studies (STS), with a critical lens on Settler-Colonial Studies. Her work explores intersections of technology, environment, and colonialism through methods like visual ethnography and digital sociology.
Recent publications analyze sociotechnical systems in island contexts, public engagement with emerging technologies (e.g., vertical farming), and visual methodologies in anthropology. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges anthropology, environmental studies, and policy analysis.
Mascha’s affiliations include cross-disciplinary centers addressing law, technology, and urban futures. Her research contributes to debates on sustainability, equity, and the ethical governance of science and innovation.
