Masaru Miyagi, PhD is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He serves as Director of the Cancer Metabolism Shared Resource at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and holds membership in multiple research programs including the Molecular Oncology Program, Center for Proteomics and Bioinformatics, and Cleveland Center for Membrane & Structural Biology. His work focuses on advancing mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics to study protein post-translational modifications and their roles in diseases like neurodegeneration. Miyagi earned his PhD in Biochemistry from Osaka University and has authored over 120 peer-reviewed articles.
Education: PhD (Biochemistry, Osaka University, 1997); MS (Biochemistry, University of the Ryukyus, 1989); BS (Biochemistry, University of the Ryukyus, 1987).
Research emphasizes developing novel mass spectrometry methodologies, including isoaspartic acid analysis in neurodegenerative diseases and drug target identification platforms. His lab pioneered techniques like histidine hydrogen-deuterium exchange for studying protein-drug interactions. Miyagi holds four US patents related to proteomic analysis innovations.
