Masako Kamiya is a full Professor at Montserrat College of Art, teaching in both the Foundation and Painting Departments. A graduate of Montserrat (BFA) and Massachusetts College of Art (MFA, 1999), she joined the full-time faculty in 2002. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes critical thinking and artistic practice, aiming to empower students to 'think and work as an artist.' Born in Japan, she grew up in Chiba and studied in Vancouver before settling in the U.S.

Her artistic practice focuses on layered acrylic gouache paintings featuring intricate color fields and visual illusions. Represented by Gallery NAGA since 2002, her work has been recognized through notable awards including the Blanche Colman Award (2018) and multiple fellowships from prestigious foundations.
