María Moreno

María Moreno is a Senior Lecturer of Spanish at the University of Virginia and Community Outreach Coordinator for the Department of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. Her office is located in New Cabell Hall 464, with office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Education includes:

• B.A. in English from Universidad Complutense in Madrid
• M.A. in Spanish (Latin American literature) from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
• Graduate Certificate in Latin American Studies from UNC Chapel Hill
• M.A. in Amerindian Studies from Casa de América and Universidad Complutense
• ABD in Spanish (Latin American literature) from UNC Chapel Hill

Her research focuses on twentieth century Latin American narrative, including indigenista novels and testimonial writing, with recent work exploring multiliteracies pedagogies and community-engaged teaching. She coordinates SPAN 3010 and SPAN 3020 courses and is developing an Open Educational Resource textbook on genre-based writing for advanced Spanish students.

Her publications primarily focus on Latin American poets, examining literary contributions within socio-political contexts. Research trends show consistent focus on Central American literary figures and pedagogical innovations.
